A Farewell Message From The Sanman
|
Dear Friends and Fans: I want to thank everyone who came out to our last gig this past Saturday and to all who have supported The Flamethrowers Band over the years. There was a genuine outpouring of emotion that blew me away. In the music business there isn't much in the way of compensation unless you're a big star. However, your appreciation and enthusiasm made it all worthwhile. I am amazed by the number of friends I've made from families and wives of the band and those of you who showed up time and again just to listen, dance and have some fun. I've enjoyed getting to know each of you especially those with whom I developed a special bond of friendship. The Lakeside was great. We had good crowds and a lot of fun there. But a special thank you to Sal of the Lamppost who repeatedly hired the band when nobody knew who we were. His hospitality was amazing. It has been great working with the Flamethrowers. Capt. Mike is the best and most professional singer I've ever worked with. His flute and conga playing really brought the songs to life. I wish him and his family the best in their new home and situation. Having Fred and Jim on each side was like getting a private concert every time we played. And Working with Jack, my rhythm section counterpart, was a great experience too. Two people I especially have to thank are Jim and Bruno. Jim must have seen some potential in my playing. It was his suggestion that I audition for the band. I can't thank him enough for that opportunity. Bruno was the 6th Flamethrower. From his design and maintenance of the website, all the pictures he took and posted, videos, YouTube postings, all the gig alerts he sent out and all in a professional and creative manner. And all done as a labor of love as we never made enough money to compensate him fully for his incredible contribution. I think his effort was critical in building our following. The significance of what he did really became apparent as the last few gigs were so well and enthusiastically attended. It was never really about money for any of us as there's little to be made in the bar scene but that's showbiz. But we had the opportunity to do what we love, play music for a live audience. Our reward was the respect and appreciation we got from you. That made it worthwhile. For that privilege I thank all of you. I hope there is a reunion somewhere down the road so we can do this at least one more time. Hopefully, I'll have a new musical situation soon. I have been actively looking. Meanwhile, I'm still a member of the house band at the Franklin Tavern blues jam on Wednesday nights Love and happiness to all, ~Sanman |
